2008 Garden Competition

The 2008 Hills District and Bunya Garden Competition Committee was chaired by Sue Coutts.  New and recycled committee members are always welcome - please email gardencomp@fhpa.com.au if you are able to assist in any way.

The weather conditions and water restrictions will present even more of a challenge this year, but it's now more important than ever to show that it's still possible to have an attractive garden under adverse conditions by adopting waterwise strategies.

The waterwise category is sponsored by Moreton Bay Water from the Moreton Bay Regional Council and will be expanded again this year to cover waterwise planting, as well as innovations in water collection and retention.  We've also identified some useful waterwise links:

Moreton Bay Water

Waterwise Gardens

Water Corporation

Plants International

Gardening Australia

Qld Garden Competitions

Annette McFarlane, Grovely TAFE

Colin Campbell's Garden Show

Open Garden Scheme

The key dates are:

Closing date for entries - Tuesday, 9th September

Judging Day - Sunday, 14th September

Presentation Day - Sunday, 19th October

For an entry form, click here.

The categories for this year's competition are:

Please note that it is not necessary to nominate which category you wish to enter.  Our judges will assign the most appropriate category.  This year's judges will again be Noel & Heather Prior, who are both members of the Australian Horticultural Judges Association.  Noel is also President of the South East Qld Branch of the Judges Association.

All entrants will receive vouchers for a free 8 metre tape measure from our major sponsor Steve Jones, and a free cubic metre of mulch from the Moreton Bay Regional Council.  Please note that you will need to pick up the mulch yourself from the Council tip on Bunya Rd.  The mulch is not bagged and you will need a box trailer or utility to collect it. There may be a loading charge if you do not load the mulch yourself.

The Hills District and Bunya Garden Competition wish to recognise the generosity and support of our sponsors.  Residents can show their appreciation by supporting these sponsors.
